This 5 panel hat is hand made at PALOMA using a 100 year old Katazome textile on the outside and a combination new Japanese cotton fabrics in an assortment of colors. The adjustable strap is made using Chromexel leather from Horween tannery in Chicago.
Our 5 panel hats are ment to ride a bit shallow on the head akin to vintage caps from the 1940s. If your cranium is of the larger variety please contact me for a custom fit.
Key Chacteristics of Katazome
The Process: Artisans use hand-carved persimmon-treated paper stencils (katagami) to apply a thick rice-paste resist onto the cloth.
The Result: When the rice paste is washed away, the area underneath remains stark white, producing crisp, intricate geometric and botanical layouts.
• Repairs, aging, slight fading are all part of these vintage textiles and it’s why each hat is unique and one of a kind.
